HISTORY:
"The Hanging Stranger" reached the SMLA on May 4, 1953. It was published in the Dec 1953 issue of Science Fiction Adventures the only one of PKDs stories to ever appear in that magazine. After that, the tale is the familiar one of nothing until volume 3 of THE COLLECTED STORIES in 1987.
A variation of Dicks up-from-under plot, a man surfaces from his basement to find flying insect-like aliens changing into human semblance and trying to take over the town. He flees and is caught and, in the end, is there any need to ask who the hanging stranger is?
