HISTORY:

   PKD followed "Souvenir" a week later with "Survey Team" on Apr 3, 1953. The agency placed the story at Fantastic Universe where it was included in the May 1954 issue. Then, again, it was not reprinted until THE COLLECTED STORIES.

    This is another of Dick’s up from under the surface of the Earth stories, but once on top the explorers find devastation and determine to escape to Mars, even though it doesn’t appear too promising to the survey team sent to scope out the red planet. In fact its already been used up by the Martians before they left. But where did they go? Well, you can guess this one, suffice to say that even though its hopeless the survey team decides to go onwards to find an unspoiled world.

Signed by Dick on the contents page, as well as by two of the other authors represented, Richard Matheson ("Day is Dun") and Robert Bloch ("The Goddess of Wisdom"). A nice little gathering of signatures by heavyweight sci-fi authors. $500
