FIRST PUBLICATION

 HISTORY:

   Arriving at the SMLA on the same day as "A Present For Pat" -- Jan 17, 1953 -- "Breakfast At Twilight" found a home at Amazing Stories magazine and was published in July 1954.

    Apparently, while making its rounds, the story was not sent to Galaxy as in a note by Scott Meredith’s sub-agent at the SMLA on the story file it is noted: ". "Don't try Gold, as he doesn't like this kind of yarn, Dick sez" {TTHC263}

    Fairly popular over the years it was selected by both Don Wollheim and Betty Ballantine for their respective PKD collections: THE BOOK OF PKD (1973) and THE BEST OF PKD (1977).

    Philip K. Dick himself said this about the story:

    There you are in your home, and the soldiers smash down the door and tell you you're in the middle of World War III. Something's gone wrong with time. I like to fiddle with the idea of basic categories of reality, such as space and time, breaking down. It's my love of chaos, I suppose.{Levack 84}
